Meeting of the Pre-Council Committee – Summary 11-8-2016

Pre-Council Committee Teleconference November 8, 2016

Opened with the prayer “O Heavenly King” at 10:00 PM EST.

Attendees: Abp. Andronik, Abp. Sophroniy, Archpriest Nikita Grigoriev, Hegumen Andrei, Hieromonk Ignatiy, D. Gontscharow, M. Kotlaroff and V. Yarmolinets.

  1. Discussed: should Met. Agafangel and other bishops of his Synod receive a request to attend the Council.
    Resolved: a) to draft the requests b) Add an explanation to the Q&A website section regarding the adjudication at the All-Diaspora Council of the canonicity of Met. Agafangel’s actions. 2. A clarification to the Rules governing participation in the Council: at the elections in the parishes of delegates, one delegate is chosen for every 20 parishioners.

  2. Regarding paragraph 11 of the Council Delegate Rules, “Dioceses and parishes that are unable for whatever reason to send their representatives, may send a confidential statement presenting their requests or views.” This does not mean submitting a vote for voting, but provides a way to express written opinions regarding the agenda of the Council, so that these opinions would be considered at the Council.

  3. A proposal to include “Cyprianism” as a topic for the Council agenda was discussed. A final decision is tabled until the next meeting.

  4. The lists of delegates need to be compiled soonest.

  5. The possibility of convening a Second Session of the Council at a later date was discussed.
