A Celebration in Commemoration of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco at the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Valley Cottage NY

On Sunday, June 30, 2019, we will celebrate and commemorate the blessed memory of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco at the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh at the Tolstoy Center in Valley Cottage, NY. 

After the Divine Liturgy, a moleben prayer service will be held for this great saint of the 20th century.  In keeping with a tradition of many years standing, a trapeza will be offered after the services.  During the trapeza, those who met and still remember the Vladyka in his lifetime, as well as many of those who have received mercy through his prayers, will share their recollections.  This year, the program will be supplemented by the singing of hymns to the Most Holy Theotokos, as St. John venerated Her greatly throughout his life.  As many may know, the Kursk Icon of the Mother of God was present in the Vladyka’s room when he reposed.  It can be said that the Mother of God Herself, came for the soul of this extraordinary God-pleaser saint. 

In the singing of both the church and folk songs, anyone can participate and in any sort of musical composition.
