CELEBRATION OF THE PATRONAL FEAST OF THE HOLY TRINITY CHURCH – Astoria, NY
The Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, celebrated on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ and known in the Orthodox tradition as Holy Trinity Day, marks the beginning of the establishment of Christ’s Church. This event signified the transformation of the community of believers into a mystical God-man organism, united by the grace of the Holy Spirit and His gifts, and speaking a common language—the understanding of Christ’s commandments.
On this holy day, the Holy Trinity Church in Astoria symbolically became the Upper Room of Zion. Adorned with flowers, linden branches, and fragrant herbs, the church was prepared for the festive service, which was led by Archbishop Andronik, together with other clergy. Faithful from various parishes came to celebrate the patronal feast. All those gathered became participants in the fulfillment of the prophetic words of the Apostle Paul: “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good: to one is given a word of wisdom, to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit, to another faith, to another the gifts of healing, to another prophecy…”
The fire of the Holy Spirit was reflected in the festal hymns, stichera, and the inspired singing of the choir. This was especially evident in the singing under the direction of choir director G. Seredyuk, which became a true sacrifice of praise and a spiritual adornment of the feast.
A particularly joyful and significant moment occurred during the service: one of the faithful and beloved parishioners—Reader Alexander Kovmir—was elevated to the rank of subdeacon. We wholeheartedly congratulate him and his wonderful family on this blessed beginning.
